Weston Tea Cup & Saucer
published by Pat Hase on Tue, 03/09/2013 - 0:15

Can anyone help date this  Souvenir of Weston-super-Mare?

The owner says ....It appears quite old and marking on bottom in gold looks like a the letter "p"

If anyone can give advice on the dating and possible value or how to find this out please add a comment to this entry.

Thank you.

Thank you to David Milner who sent me these photos with the comment that :

"Most interested in seeing the mention of the cup and saucer as I have something similar in my possession. I have no real idea of the value, history, etc but this cup and saucer were purchased for a few pounds in a small antique shop in the High Street of Wickwar, South Glos about 12 years ago. As you will see, it is similar but different to the one in which you are interested and the legend on the base of the cup is 'made in Germany'; there is nothing on the base of the saucer. I believe that this is probably a piece of massed produced cheap pottery that was made as souvenirs for holiday makers and known as 'Lustre Ware'. Images attached. Should it turn out to be worth a fortune, you're on 10%!"
Can anyone else help before this turns into an Antiques Road Show or even Flog It!!

As Dave Milner has said these cup & saucer's are made in Gemany as souvenirs of Weston in about 1900. As for value they can be found for sale on E-Bay anywhere between £1 - £20

Hi. If its marked Germany, it is pre first war, 1914. As during and after the war people would not buy anything with Germany on it, it would be marked 'foreign' Looking at the style I would say 1900-1910.
Hope that helps a bit. Hilary.
