JONES of WESTON-SUPER-MARE (I'm very stuck)!
published by on Wed, 27/11/2013 - 16:53
My grandfather was WILLIAM HENRY JONES b1893 d1956. His wife was SARAH PODMORE b1895 d1926. I'm struggling to find any info on WILLIAM'S parents - ALBERT JONES b1865 app, married MINNIE LOVELL b1873 app. If anyone has info they could share, it would be gratefully appreciated. I have much info to share also.
My father was ARTHUR JONES b1925 d this year. My dad was the last of the children from WILLIAM & SARAH.

Hi Sarah

Are you the Sarah who put a message on Ancestry back in 2001 regarding the JONES of WSM. I ask because that message gave me information about an ancestor of mine?

Jane Sperrin (my ancestor) married William Jones in April 1837. William was one of eight children, father Richard who married Mary Gould. Richards father was James Jones who married Ann Muggleworth.

Looking forward to hearing from you and hopeful we can share information if we are researching the same Jones.

Pat Hase has put some interesting information in the new edition of Buckets and Spades regarding the 1801 plan of WSM. There is a James Jones living in the town and also Mugglesworths. The map shows where the families lived.

Best regards

Tony (Sperrin)

I am the very same Sarah lol :)

Been doing this dam tree for 13 years now - still missing bits and I can't find them - someone out here has the info - but who?? :)

I have put my tree up on ancestry.co.uk if you would like to take a peek (seeing as we do share some bits) :)

I may need some help to fill in some more missing bits, which sounds like you might well have :)

William and Jane married in 1847. It is the same line that you have - exciting times. Care to share??

Hi Sarah.

I looked for your tree on Ancestry but there are several for Albert. Can you let me know the name of your tree or the owner name used then I can see what detail you have. This will save me repeating info you already have. My main aim is of course the Sperrin surname but I am always very interested in any branches to add to my family tree

There was a Minnie LOVELL (born c1873 in Bleadon) living in Bleadon in 1881 with parents William and Martha and siblings Harry, Ellen and Edward (aged 12, 10 and 5).

And there was an Albert JONES (born c1866 in W-s-M) living in W-s-M in 1881 with parents William and Jane and siblings Hannah 27, James 21, Henrietta 17, Charles 13 and Arthur 11.

Might these be yours?

Albert JONES married Minnie Lovell in 1891. The marriage was registered in Axbridge Registration District in Q3 Volume 5c page 823. If you obtain the marriage certificate this should confirm their fathers' names.

Hiya, yes they are mine - I have that info already - I'm struggling to find Albert and Minnie's death records anywhere.
My grandfather was William Henry Jones - he always told my dad he was brought up by his grandparents - never gave a reason as to why - which is one reason why I'm trying to find Albert and Minnies deaths - maybe that will shed some light as to why William Henry was brought up by Jane Sperrin(g).

I've got full ancestry membership and have gone through every record possible - and STILL cannot find any trace of their deaths anywhere.
There are some other loose ends regarding these people (possibly) - just wondering if anyone else has any other info on them that can maybe tie these loose ends up? :)

P.s. I've got their marriage certs :)

In the transcription of the Baptisms at Emmanuel Church, Weston - on this site - is the christening of a William JONES s/o Albert & Minnie JONES of Cardiff in 1901. Is this a late baptism of your grandfather.  Did Albert & Minnie move to South Wales looking for work?

Were there any other children of Albert & Minnie JONES?

Hiya,

Someone pointed that out to me yesterday, as luck would have it - yes, its my grandfather William. He was born 1893 and is in the 1901 census as living with his grandmother Jane - I was told he was brought up by his grandmother, so this confirms it. However, still rather puzzled as to the whereabouts of Albert & Minnie.
William had a sister Margaretta May Jones. I have details for her (marriage and death), except birth. On searching ancestry last night, I found 2 possible births for her, both in Wales, 1901 and 1902.
Trying to put puzzle together - (possibility) William left to stay with grandmother while parents go in search of work - Minnie ends up with child again ......... but then what? Cant search the census I really need to search as they aren't out yet - why are they so far behind?!?
William must have come to South Wales at some point as he got married here and all his children were born here (my dad and co).
I may need to relook for Albert & Minnie in Wales. Its possible they died later than I thought, hence why I cant find any records.
