Can you tell us in which village the JEFFERIS family lived - and any first names which they had?  In 1911 the only person with the surname JEFFERIS living in the Registration District of Axbridge was a 16 year old Kathleen JEFFERIS who was at school in Weston-super-Mare but was born in Wiltshire.  However, there are several families with the name JEFFERIES living in this area.  They are mainly in Cheddar, but others are in Bleadon, Burnham on Sea, Worle, Milton etc.

Could Emms name have been Emma?

You don't say how old you think William and Emms would be in the 1930s, but there is an Emma JEFFERIS who either died or was buried on  8th August 1936, aged 80 in Congresbury - is that roughly the right age?  The death of Emma JEFFERIS was registered in Weston in the Sept qrt of 1936 Ref Weston 5c 426 -  A copy of her death certificate should confirm whether she was the wife of a William JEFFERIS and if he didn't register her death another relation may have - which might give you a lead.

From FreeBMD - there is a William A JEFFERIS whose death was also registered in the Weston-super-Mare district in 1943, aged 88.  He's not buried in Congresbury according to a listing of Gravestones and Memorials published some years ago by the Congresbury History Group.

I've no proof that this is the family you are looking for but.....On the 1911 Census a William & Emma JEFFERIS, both aged 55, were living in Bristol at 23 Victoria Road Redfield.  They have his father, Thomas JEFFERIS, aged 75, living with them and two children, Ada, 20 and Frederick, 15.  The census entry also says that William and Emma have been married for 36 years and have had 8 children and 2 have died.

Going back to the 1901 census - you will find other children, Agnes, Beatrice, William & Rose - they are living in Bristol at 7, Avonvale Road, Compton Street.  Do any of these names ring bells with you?

As you have the census entries for this family up to and including the 1911 census you will have the details which Debbie and I found and the names of 7 of the children. The information that two children had died is included on the 1911 census if you look at the original image - it's not on the transcription.

Although you know about Rose May JEFFERIS - it is difficult to determine who the other child was.  Assuming that all the births were registered as JEFFERIS you could search in between 1875 and 1911 to look for other children who were born and died during that period.  Having said that their eldest daughter is registered as  Lilly Ann JEFFERIES, and her christening appears on familysearch also as JEFFERIES so you would need to check all possible spellings. There are several gaps where another child could fit.

Frederick JEFFERIS  from Poplar Farm Congresbury is included on the passenger list of the Calgaric which left Southampton for Montreal 19 April 1930 - so presumably he did return at some time. Have you seen his enlistment papers for the Canadian Expeditionary Force?  He is entered as Frederick JEFFERIES but signs as Frederick JEFFERIS - he gives his next of kin as his mother - did he fall out with his father?

For others researching relations who may have served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force - this is a really good site

Many young men from this area were included in this force.  Most of them had emigrated in the earlier part of the century.

Hi Krissy,
Not sure how much help this is with what you want to know but I have found these.
There was a William and Emma JEFFERIS living at 23 Victoria Road, Redfield, Bristol in 1911.  They had two children living with them Ada aged 20 and Frederick 15. All of them give their place of birth as Bristol.

Looking on FreeBMD an Ada Florence A JEFFERIS in Barton Regis District in 1891.  Ada F A JEFFERIS married an Arthur R EVERY in 1915 in Bristol.

The death of an Ada Florence A EVERY (Aged 98)was registered in Weston-super-Mare District (includes Congresbury)in 1980.  There is also a death of Emma JEFFERIS in the Weston district in 1936.  Her age is given as 80 which fits with her being 55 in 1911.

That just shows how two heads are often better than one especially if they come up with the same solution!

I liked your reasoning about Ada JEFFERIS - it would seem entirely possible for the older couple to have been living near or with a married daughter.  There are no EVERY burials in Congresbury but cremation would have been an option by 1980.
