URCH George and Eliza published by on Sat, 04/01/2014 - 23:45
I am trying to find some further details on my Great Great Grandfather and Mother George and Eliza Urch.
George was born abt 1834 in Somerset and Eliza abt 1832 in Middlesex. They married in 1854 in Axbridge, Somerset. Their son Henry was born in 1855 in Weston Super Mare. They had 5 children but only Henry was born in WSM. They came to Australia in 1857 when Henry was 2.
George appears in an 1841 census but very difficult to read, he has a brother Edward and a sister Sarah and his Father is Edward aged 40 who is a Carpenter.
Hoping anyone can help with some detail, it would be much appreciated.
George was born in Kewstoke nr Weston Super Mare and baptised on 6th July 1834 at St Martins Parish Church in Worle. He married Eliza Norris on 31st March 1854 at Emanuel PC al. Our records verify your data wrt their arrival in Australia and the number of children.
George's parents were Edward and Mary (nee Wallice), married 1st April 1824 at St Martins, Worle and they had 7 children (including George). They lived in Kewstoke and their children were baptised in both Kewstoke pc and St Martins pc in Worle. The children were:
Sarah (bpt 1826), Mary Ann (bpt 1828), Edward (bpt 1832), George (bpt 1834 as above), William (bpt 1837), William (bpt 1840) and John (bpt 1843). We have the dates for all baptisms if required.
Edward who married Mary Wallice, his parents were Edward Urch (born 20th July 1760 in Chilton Polden) and Sarah (nee Talbertt) from Chedzoy. They married on 26th Nov 1781 at St Mary the Virgin, Chedzoy. Edward and Sarah had 8 children, they were:
Joseph 1782, Betty 1784, Joseph 1786, Sarah 1788, Edward 1791, John 1795, Edward 1797 (as above) and we believe William 1799.
Edward (born 20th July 1760) was the eldest child of Edward and Margaret (nee Collings) of Chilton Polden. Edward and Margaret are believed to have had a total of 5 children; Edward (as above), James 1764, Edith 1768, Betty 1770 and Joseph 1772.
Trust that this helps. We recognise how difficult it is for you to obtain informatiuon from the UK, we have similar problems with Australia !
We have been searching for Caroline Urch, who arrived in Melbourne, Austrailia in January 1854. She also had a sister Sarah that arrived in Australia 2 years before who we have traced but Caroline is a mystery to us: perhaps you can help?

Hi Sue and Keith
I have had difficulty with the dates you mentioned as well. I have found a Caroline Urch with a sister Sarah who is the daughter of John and Hannah but may be a different person. I will keep searching and keep you posted.
Caroline Urch was born in 1868 in Bathurst, New South Wales - Bathurst being an inland city about 3 hrs drive from Sydney.
Caroline married at the young age of 17 to William Tate in 1885 in Sydney, NSW. Caroline and William had 4 children - Ruby M in 1887, Ethel E in 1889, Maria in 1890 and William J in 1891.
I can find 6 brothers and sisters - Hannah M born 1866, Sarah E born 1875, Willie Edwin born 1870, Henry Francis born 1872, Mary Ellen born 1873, Ethel Rosalind born 1879 - all appear to be born in Bathurst.
Caroline died 6 November 1953 aged 85, she is buried at one of Sydney's historical and still operational cemetries called Waverley Cemetery in Bronte, Sydney. Caroline died in Hurstville, a suburb of Sydney and it appears that the family lived in those southern suburbs of Sydney.
Certificates are available and I would be happy to apply and send on, should you wish.
Hope this assists some and as stated will keep going with your dates.
