Can anyone help me identify the parents of Anna Maria BUTCHER spinster of East Harptree when married to Benjamin GRIFFIN 09/06/1756 in Chew Stoke? I believe her to have been baptised 12/04/1732 in East Harptree of Charles & Mary. A Charles Butcher was a witness at Anna's marriage.
I have found two siblings; 1730 Charles BUTCHER and 1735 Susannah BUTCHER. A marriage should have taken place 1730 or earlier. I haven't found one in East Harptree.
I have found a baptism for a Charles BUTCHER 03/07/1683 in East Harptree son of William "junior". If our Charles and presuming a marriage around 1730, he would have been approx 47 when this took place.
I'm wondering if there may be several Charles Butcher's as I found a baptism in 1697 of a Henry BUTCHER son of Charles. If the same Charles baptised 1683 Charles would have been 14 when Henry was born, unless Charles (1683) was not baptised in the year of his birth. There is a burial 1698(7) of Margaret BUTCHER "wife of Charles". Soon after the birth of Henry?
However, what makes me think that the husband of Mary might not be that of Margaret (after her death) is that there is a burial for a Charles BUTCHER 21/12/1725. I am presuming this is the father of Henry, husband of Margaret.
If there is another Charles born/baptised in East Harptree I haven't found him.
Another family conundrum that is making my head ache! Any knowledge of this family would be appreciated.
You have helped me enormously with Charles Robert Evors, many thanks to Pat Hase. Now I wonder whether info can be found on where his daughter Emily Gertrude, born 1886, might have gone to school? They were in Weston from 1901 til 1915, and lived at 2 Coronation Road, by Grove Park. Even a suggestion would be appreciated, thank you.
Emily was the last of several offspring of the Rev.. Charles Robert and his 2nd wife Eliza.
We have been contacted with a query about a George THORNE who was said to be from Weston-super-Mare and who represented Great Britain in Golf at the 1900 Paris Olympics. At the moment there seems to be two possibilities but there could be more!
George THORNE, who died on 23 June 1907, at Friedenheim, 7 Highbury Parade, Weston-super-Mare, aged 60 - He appears to have lived previously in Castle Hills NSW, Australia
George THORNE, born in about 1860 who appears on the 1901 and 1911 census living in Weston and died 18th April 1943 in Leicester but was buried in Weston Cemetery.
Golf is being reintroduced into the Olympics next year so it would be good to recognise any Weston resident who took part. Can anyone help?
I contacted this society quite some time ago regarding the Burge family of Yatton and Claverham. I've proved our line to Benjamin Burge who was buried at Yatton in 1822. I've just recently found that his cause of death at age 36 was due to a cart running over him. An inquest was held.
However my searches have not found anything online. As I'm from Australia I wonder if any of you local folk may know of if I could find this somewhere? Also Pat Hase suggested that George Burge and Elizabeth Parsons is possibly our next generation and I haven't found any other evidence to suggest otherwise. They baptised 3 kids in bicknoller and Benjamin in stogumber 1785. If anyone can help with any further search i'd be most appreciative.
