John Flew born about 1749
published by on Sun, 19/02/2017 - 23:22

Took me 10 years to find his burial.
Burial John FLEW 4 Mar 1826 Congresbury Age 77.
Ancestry transcribed it as FLEN, and the image looks like a Bishops Transcript.
The column for abode states what looks like "Callinghill in this parish"
The burial is not on Grahams list.

So he was married twice and died in Congresbury, seems logical that he was born there, but I cant find a baptism for him in or around the year 1749.
I have also tried Yatton and Wrington.

Any ideas where I go from here please

Thank you

I am researching the KEEN family and, despite my name, am a direct male to male KEEN descendant. During my research I have come across several URCH family members, though no direct KEEN = URCH links.

Recently, while passing through Wedmore, I noticed a derelict shop with the sign above "H W URCH" and suspect he may be Herbert William URCH b.Q3 1909 who married to Stella HARPER in Q2 1838.

I wonder whether you have any details of 1. Links between the KEEN and URCH families and 2. whether you have any ancestry details for H W URCH and Stella HARPER

Kind Regards, Robert

Store owned by George Simpson
published by Paul Tregelles on Wed, 08/02/2017 - 16:30

Does anyone have any info re the location and type of store that George Simpson owned in Weston-super-Mare in the 1850's / 1860's. I suspect the store could have been a grocers and may have been located in the High Street or Cambridge Place. Apparantly, the store was a "tiny gloomy shop that you entered by descending 2 steps". On George's death in the mid 1860's the business was taken over by Charles Brown & Edgar Marriage Brown.

Trewartha Park - House numbering
published by Paul Tregelles on Tue, 31/01/2017 - 7:52

Is anyone aware of the house numbering of this road changing in 1912?

I see that there were 13 houses recorded in 1910 & 1911 but in 1912 this increased to 39. Also of the original residents only 2 (nos 1 & 3) appear at the same house number with the others not living there anymore or in the case of 8 residents living at a different number house. Either they all moved to different houses which is unlikely or, the numbering changed.
