I am researching Charles Hedges who took out a lease for the farm of Clevedon with the Earl of Bristol in 1668. He baptises his son Charles in Tickenham in 1665.
I understand that the church at Clevedon was frquently cut off by the tide and I find the family registered in Walton in Gordano, andTickenham, stating 'of Clevedon' perhaps for this reason.
I have tried to find his baptism or marraige but to no avail and wonder if he moved into the area. He was clearly able to read and write. There were existing Hedges families within a close radius at Nailsea for example but I can find no confirmed link.
He went to Peru published by Brian & Pam Airey on Sat, 20/05/2017 - 16:30
I am researching an ancestor Harry PRESTON, born in Preston in 1896. He was last heard of travelling to Valperaiso in 1929 as a vet. I have made enquiries at the British Embassy in Peru without success. I am awaiting a reply from the Vetinery College archives. Does anyone have any other lines of enquiry I could follow?
As a WWII Evacuee, I attended St. John's from early 1943 until return to my East London home address on 08 May 1945 (VE Day) - and wonder IF there are any pupils of that era who I could contact please.
I'm trying to find the location of Stonebridge in Clevedon. The address given on a 1920 birth certificate is '24 Stone Bridge, Clevedon'.
There is currently a street called Stonebridge, near Tutton Way, but this seems to be a new (1960s/70s) development. I have consulted a 1903 map of Clevedon and do not see such a street indicated in that area. The UK Land Registry say they have no information for 'Stonebridge' prior to 1979.
I found a reference to 'No. 3 Stonebridge Cottages, Clevedon' in documents related to property purchase in 1877, so perhaps the address I'm looking for should be 'Stonebridge Cottages'.
Does anyone know how I can pinpoint the location of Stonebridge Cottages or of a street called Stone bridge in 1920s Clevedon? I tried Somerset Archives, but they couldn't find it.
I am researching JAMES KNOWLES who married MARY BAAL 2 April 1744 in Yatton. They had two children - JAMES baptised 3 Feb 1744/45 and WILLIAM baptised 27 July 1746 both at Yatton. The entry for WILLIAM shows that MARY was a widow and I have found a JAMES KNOWLES buried at the adjoining parish of Kingston Seymour on 19 January 1745/46 and stated to be "of Yatton". Prior to this date there is a KNOWLES family (or more than one family) at Kingston Seymour but after this date they appear to have moved away. Does anyone know if JAMES KNOWLES was born in Kingston Seymour and any other details as I have "hit a brick wall".
