Harry & Bertha Mabel Gordon - Laurel Farm, Banwell
published by Paul Tregelles on Wed, 06/12/2017 - 15:41

Harry was born 8th March 1927 & died 19th March 1972 and Bertha Mabel Gordon (formerly Pring) was born 21st August 1906 & died 25th August 1989.

I know they lived at Laurel Farm, Summer Lane, Knightcott, Banwell and had three Daughters:

- Marie Gordon born around 1926

- Eileen Lucy Gordon born 28th July 1927

- Cynthia Gordon born around 1928

Does anyone know the full names of Marie & Cynthia and their dates of birth ?

Thanks for your help with this.

TREGO - MAPSTONE - GLOVER - BISHOP - CURTIS
published by on Sun, 29/10/2017 - 14:10
I have been researching my family tree for many years now. My ancestors are TREGO from Weston Super Mare, and earlier Cannington.
My Grandparents were William Trego and Doris Mapstone and my other grandparents were Ernest Bishop and Edith Curtis from East Brent and Brent Knoll.
Have read some lovely articles on here mentioning Robert and Sophia Trego who were my g.g.g.grandparents!
There was also mention of Trego-Jones? which we could never fathom out? but my Grandmother always said there were two Trego lines in Weston? I presume from brothers John and William Trego? I descend from William.
Thanks for any information.

Clark(e) or Snell - James and Hannah
published by on Thu, 05/10/2017 - 12:28
Hi
Does anyone know information about
James Snell or Clark(e) and Hannah Clarke. We are not sure whether they were married or whether James was James Snell or Clarke - they seem to use the name interchangeably at times.

I believe they had 4 children

James baptised Kenn 20 7 1823
John baptised Banwell 15 4 1827
Mary Ann bapt banwell 22 11 1829
Caroline bapt banwell 8 5 1831

I am descended from John.

If I have the right family, their father James Snell or Clarke died falling from a cart in Congressbury in 1831. the family fell on hard times and the two boys took to stealing with stints in jail. John was transported to Western Australia in 1851.

I would really like to know if I have the right records - and to find a marriage record, if it exists, for James Snell/Clarke and Hannah Clarke. I want to then build the correct families around them.

I want to confirm Hannah's correct name and birthdate or baptism date
I want to confirm James senior's correct name and birthdate/baptism date.

I think Hannah lived with Caroline and her husband Charles Hemens in Hannah's old age. The birth date for Hannah changes a bit also.

Any advice will be gratefully appreciated.

George BURNETT - schoolmaster of Cheddar
published by Pat Hase on Mon, 18/09/2017 - 0:11

On Saturday at the library we had a query about this family:  Can anyone help discover whether there are any relatives still in the area?

George BURNETT, born in 1854 in Warrington, Lancashire was married to a Sarah Betty COX, widow, née GREEN in 1876 and had 3 children, Emily who was born in Weston in Gordano and Minnie and George who were born in Cheddar in 1881 and 1883 where he was the Schoolmaster.  Emily and Minnie both married in Cheddar in 1903.  By 1911 George had retired and was living in Salisbury with his married daughter Emily BROWN.
