john marshman and bestsey beaks married 1834
published by on Mon, 10/02/2014 - 10:20

Hia, I'm wondering if anyone can help. John Marshman married Betsey Beakes in 1834 Kewstoke, I am looking for her parents please. The census tells me she was born in Banwell around 1805. Also I have the parents for John as Thomas and Sarah Marshman but cannot find anymore than that. So I'm looking for a marriage for them. He was born in Kewstoke so it's possible that is where they married. Thank you for reading.

Jo

Hello Joanne,

I have the parents of John MARSHMAN as Thomas MAISHMAN and Sally WAGGOT marrying in Kewstoke on 21 Oct 1795.  Their children that I know of so far are:

Mary and Ann both baptised in 1808,  John in 1810,  Sarah in 1813 and William in 1817 - all in Kewstoke.

I have Mary MASHMAN as marrying John SHENTON in Congresbury in 1829 and dying there in 1846 aged 42.  Obviously, not appearing in the 1851 census I don't know where she was born but three of her children were living in Kewstoke in 1851 and the eldest was born there.

Mary SHENTON aged 41 was a prisoner in Ilchester Gaol in 1842.  She gave her last abode as "Coomsbury" and place of birth as Bristol.

Due to the age gaps I think John and Mary most likely had other siblings so I'm wondering if Bristol is worth a look but I'm afraid I haven't had a chance to yet .

A Sally WAGGOT was baptised in Kewstoke 9 Oct 1774, daughter of John and Mary .  There is also a Sarah MARSHMAN age 68 in Kewstoke in 1841.
The only Thomas MA(I)(R)SHMAN  I have found so far is a little on the young side and living in Churchill in 1841.  Still looking into him.

Mary SHENTON nee MASHMAN is my 4 x great grandmother so do feel free to get in touch.

hia Debbie, and thank you for the information you gave. john marshman is my husbands 4x g granddad, so the same generation as yourself. I had William and Sarah as their siblings but I didn't have Mary or Ann in 1808. I have had a look and I cant find the baptisms, so be interested to know where you have found them. this is the first time I have used this site, I am not a payed member although I am thinking of joining as, it seems, I could make good use of it. I am happy to share the information I have on my line (john marshman) if you would like? do you live in w-s-m? regards. jo

Hi Jo,

The other baptisms are on transcripts on this site so definitely worth becoming a member.  I'm from Weston but now living over the other side of the Severn bridge. I'll let you have my email.

Joanne,

The WSM  FHS is well worth subscribing to. I live in Australia.

I got the information you were seeking, from their Banwell Parish Transcriptions.
