HARSE Family - Weston-super-Mare
published by Pat Hase on Tue, 25/10/2011 - 14:54

I have received a query from a non-member who is researching the HARSE family of Weston-super-Mare.  She has a family tree from Brian Austin, but would like to make contact with anyone else who is interested in this family.  She wants to establish how her family is connected to the John HARSE, 1787-1874, who initiated a carrier service in 1811 between Weston and Bristol and later lived for a while of Steep Holm.

Her own family includes a John & Hannah HARSE who were living in Rose Cottage, Carlton Street, Weston-super-Mare in 1851.  They were married at St John's Church, Weston, 24th April 1823.  Hannah's maiden name appears to be CARP and there was a query about that surname connected with the FRY family earlier.

This picture is of George HARSE, 1819-1861, the Weston Worthy, who was a Donkeychairman and a nephew of the John & Hannah of Carlton Street.

Hello

Just read about a nonmember asking about the HURST family.  My family is from the Weston-super-Mare area, some from Axbridge.  Henry James HARSE moved to Wales and g.father was born there.  There was a name change about 1897 to HURST.  I live in the US and have found a couple of family members here.  I am the last of my branch, do I love finding others.  I have information that I will be more than happy to pass along.  Please get in touch if you think I can help

Hello

My family are also Hurst and from the Weston-super-Mare area.  My main brick wall is Joseph Harse/Hurse/Hearse who was a shoemaker born c1795.  He died of Cholera in Pill, Somerset in 1849.  I am now pretty certain that he was married three times, lived in Badgworth, Nailsea, Pill & Wedmore in Somerset as well as Newport in South Wales.  However, I still have no idea who his parents were or where he was born.

If you think we are connected, I am happy to share more information with you.

Debbie Durrant
