There was a marriage of a William CRANE to a Louisa STOKES which took place at St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol in the 11th August 1839 - see familysearch.  But, William gives his father's name as John CRANE (not Joseph) according to the transcription but you could get a copy of the certificate to confirm the father's name and to see the witnesses.  Louisa's father is given as William STOKES.

There are christenings of several children to William & Louisa in Wraxall  in our transcriptions and by using the GRO index you can see which CRANE children have STOKES as the mother's maiden name.  Louisa (or Louiza) was born in 1845 and is the only one where the father's second name is given (when she was christened at Backwell)  I believe that the 4-day-old William CRANE who was buried at Backwell in 1840 may have been another son.

On the 1851 census the William STOKES living with them is possibly Louisa's father and I believe her mother was probably Rachel VAGG and that they were married at St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol in 1810.

I have STOKES from Wraxall in  my own family but cannot see a link with yours yet.

Just to add to the info you already have, Louisa was baptised at St Andrew's, Backwell on 28 August 1814. Her parents are shown as William and Rachael as Pat has said. There are many generations of the Stokes family to be found in the Backwell transcripts should you be interested in following that line.

Good luck, Libby Owen
