DANIEL HOFFMAN - BIRTHPLACE

Hi All,

I would be very grateful for any assistance on this.
My maternal Great Grandfather, Daniel Hoffman was born in Hesse Nassau Germany 1849, married Caroline Emery in Weston-Super-Mare on 4/12/1872, and died in Weston-Super-Mare 11/6/1883. He was a single cornet player in a local band under the leadership of a Herr Pfaff. There was a benefit concert played for his wife Caroline, and a copy of the Poster is in the Weston Museum.

I am trying to determine his exact birthplace in Germany. I am a member of Ancestry.co.uk, and have tried a couple of German genealogy links with no success.

Therefore, can someone assist or point me in the right direction with my quest.

How do you know he was born in Hesse Nassau?

Have you tried Familysearch? The description of the records available for the Hesse Nassau area of Germany is given here. However, 1849 is before the Hesse Nassau region as such was created but this site does explain what records are available before that time as well

A search for German Records on Familysearch shows that there is a baptism of a Daniel s/o Daniel HOFMANN & Margaretha LITZENBERGER on 26 Dec 1849 at Evangelische, Hinzweiler, Pfalz, Bavaria. But there are others listed as well and don't forget that 1849 is only an approximate date for his birth.

The Anglo German FHS might also be able to help with better advice!

I too have a maternal great grandfather from Germany (Christoph Wagner) also a musician. He died in Weston in 1893. I cannot trace his birthplace as all documents just state "born Germany".

My grandfather was Victor Hoffman Daniel Hoffman was his grandfather how are you related to him?

Hi,
My grandmother, Lilie Louise Hoffman, was Daniel's daughter. She married William Cox and my mother Winifred Edmunds nee Cox was one of Lilie and William's daughter's. Hope that makes sense. Therefore, if you have any information on Daniel it would be greatly appreciated.
