Mary Day and Charles Tripp

Married 18 June 1783 at St Leonard's in Shipham. I descend from their daughter Mary born 1784. I have Charles TRIPP baptized 27 Feb 1763 "bastard of Betty TRIPP".
Looking for any information concerning this couple but particularly looking for parents of Betty TRIPP.

I don't agree with the date you have given for the marriage of Charles TRIPP - I believe our transcriptions have the correct date, but you would need to check it yourself against the original entry.

Regarding Betty TRIPP - Have you looked for a christening of an Elizabeth TRIPP instead?

Dear Sandi, I am wondering if you might help me, please! My 3x Great Grandfather William Dyer (1791-1863) married Mary Anne Tripp. They lived in Wick St. Lawrence, not too far from Shipham, and had 8 children starting 1825.

Might Mary Anne appear in your tree? I have no details yet for her or their marriage.

Sorry but do not have them in my tree. My Tripp connection is through Mary TRIPP of Shipham who married William Parker of Bleadon & their son Josheph came first to Canada & in 1853 to Iowa.

I believe they were married at Temple Church Bristol on the 14th Feb 1824. This is from the CD of Bristol Marriages produced by the Bristol & Avon FHS.

It was not uncommon for people from this area to go to Bristol to get married. Theywere married by banns and the both say they are "of this parish" on the transcription ( ie. Temple) but that would probably be a temporary address for convenience.

Thank you for your prompt replies! Had a typo in that wedding date- sorry. And finally was able to find baptism for Elizabeth after being given the date, found the record itself in someone else's tree.
Would anyone have any clues for finding Mary Day?
I would truly love to be a full member but we have been unable to figure out process for getting payment in sterling from Texas to you! I am sure I have ancestors in the Bleadon cemetery!

Hello Sandi,

I am related directly to the Day's of Shipham, Banwell and the surrounding areas and I do have a Mary Day born in Shipham in 1810, I am not sure if this is the one you are looking for but I can add that her brother George Day (B. 1801 Banwell) married a Harriet Tripp (b.1807 Shipham) on the 19th Jan 1827 in Shipham. Is it possible this could be the Mary Day you are looking for?

My Mary Day is before 1810 â˜¹ï¸ She married Charles TRIPP at St Leonard's in Shipham on 28 June 1783. They were the parents of Mary TRIPP who was the wife of William Parker in Bleadon & my 3 great grandparents. Do you have any Days that far back?

I have dug deep into the records and I think the only one I have been able to pinpoint is Mary Day born in the August or early September 1754 in Banwell she was baptised on the 6th September 1754 and is the daughter of John and Mary Day. She is my 6 times great aunt this would make her 9 years older, but it seems to fit the death entries for them both, the entry for Charles is given as 6th May 1816 aged 62, and for Mary as 24th Jan 1826 aged 63. Working this out the birth years are 1754 and 1763. This I know would be wrong but I suggest the entries would incorrect in the burial records by the person that buried them, I have come across a couple of times but it is also possible the wrong ages were given as I don't live in Somerset I am unable to check that record for sure, Banwell and Shipham are next door to each other. I also discovered if you didn't know already that they had a son George Tripp born 1787 baptised on 9th Feb 1787, and this also may be of interest to you to I have a marriage entry for a Susanna L Tripp to Samuel Day on the 14th Feb 1790 in Shipham.

Samuel DAY and Susanna TRIPP are my 5 x great grandparents and I have a possible link between Susanna and Charles TRIPP. I have her father as Jacob TRIPP but there are two of them baptised around the same time in Shipham. One in 1738 is the son of William TRIPP and Betty/Elizabeth, the other in 1736 the son of Henry and Lydia TRIPP. William and Betty appear to have also had a daughter Elizabeth TRIPP baptised in 1740 as has already been mentioned as the likely Betty TRIPP mother of Charles.

I am currently thinking that William and Betty are more likely to be my direct line because there are Williams further down but no Henrys, I realise that this isn't exactly proof though so will look further into them now as I had got side tracked by something else.

Hi Debbie,

I hope you find what you need I can't think of anything to try except the burial records to see what they could suggest, but I like you have to work out where in the vast family tree of my grandad's Samuel fits in. It doesn't help that they use the same names so much, but I am sure I will get there like you.
