I'm looking for Frederick Derrick war history. He was a WW1 soldier with the Somerset Light Infantry which later changed. He was wounded and died at home. He did go to France.
James Robert Piper born on the 1st of April 1915 in Bristol, apparently adopted to Frank Piper and Florence Piper. Frank died in a train accident working on the gbr any help would be appreciated.

By using FreeBMD I can see that the birth of a James R PIPER whose mother's maiden name was JORDAN was registered in the June quarter of 1915 in Bristol.  There is a marriage registered in the Sept quarter of 1911 of a Francis PIPER to a Florence R  JORDAN - This looks like the parents' marriage as Frank is used as a version of Francis.

There is a death of a Francis PIPER in Bristol aged 39 registered in the December qrt of 1929 - Could this be the death you mentioned with a different age?  This suggests a birthdate of about 1890.  On the 1911 census a Frank PIPER, aged 20 was living at 2 Eugene Gardens, Eugene Street with his parents - some connection with Mrs ANGERSON?

According to the 1939 Register James R PIPER, a Railway Porter and Ambulance Driver, born 1 April 1915 is living at 14 Addiscombe Road, Bathavon with a widow Florence PIPER born 15 June 1893 - presumably his mother?

I'd be interested in your comments

Have you found any military records for Frederick DERRICK?  Do you know the date of his birth or where he was born?   I notice that there is a Medal Card of a Frederick G DERRICK who was in the Somerset Light Infantry as a Private  No. 9673, then the Hampshire Regiment No 09605 and finally the Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry No 87143.  Is this the man you are looking for?   The various regiments may have some details which might help.

There is a birth registered in Bristol in 1915 of a James Robert PIPER but can you explain how his adopted perents had the same surname - were they related?  When was he adopted?

Have you any idea about when Frank PIPER was killed or where he died?  There could well be an article in a newspaper but you do need a litle more information.  The British Newspaper Archives is an excellent resource.  There would also have been an Inquest which would have been reported.

You could also try looking for the marriage on FreeBMD of a Frank PIPER with a Florence.

Thank U for your interest in this matter. Frederick was born 28 June 1895, Newton St Loe and died 28 October 1955 at the Frenchay Hospital. James Robert piper was born on the 1 April 1915 to a F Jordon but we have been told he was later adopted but we can't be quite sure and Frank Piper supposedly his father, died at the aged of 29 by the shunting of a GW train. We also know they did live in a Mrs Angerson in Eugens Street Newfoundland Rd, Bristol. If U can help, it would be very much appreciated .
