Ball Family Hewish/Puxton published by on Sun, 23/06/2013 - 21:39
I am trying to trace my Great Grandfather's family. His name was Lewis John Ball and I believe that he was born in Hewish c1863 and his family was probably connected with the Railway.

GRO Registration of Marriage: Lewis John Ball to Mary Jane Chaplin
Date of Registration: Dec Qtr., 1888 Registration District: Bedminster County: Somerset
Familysearch has a transcription of his marriage to Mary Jane CHAPLIN on the 16th Dec 1888 at St Luke's Church, Bedminster, Bristol.
Familysearch is always a good place to look for transcriptions of Bristol records but the original entry of a marriage should have the occupations of the bride, groom and their fathers as well as where they said they were living at the time of their marriage and the names of witnesses.
On the 1871 census you will see that he and his parents are living with a John FRENCH
On FreeBMD you will find this marriage - also in Bristol
This suggests that John BALL's wife might have been an Anne FRENCH
Using Familysearch again you can find this marriage as well - John BALL married Ann FRENCH on the 26th Feb 1862 at St Nicholas Church, Bristol - It was not unusual for people living in North Somerset to go to Bristol to get married.
