Searching for the correct death information for William Andres born 25 Feb 1867 at 7 Waterloo Place, Clifton,Bristol,England. He married Olive Amelia Fear 3 Sept 1902. His parents were William Andres b.1843 & Elizabeth Ward b. 1846. Not to be confused with another William Andres b.1868 or 1869 married to Sarah Ball.

Hi

My 3 x Gt Grd Father is Isaac Andres and I believe William Andres b1843 is my 2nd Gt Grd Uncle. His Sister Rosina b.1855 is my 2 x Gt Grd Mother. I have been conducting some research and my findings are as follows:

William married Elizabeth Ward and had 5 children 1 of which was William b.1867. He married Sarah Ball and had 3 daughters. He died in 1944.

After Elizabeth Ward died in 1874 William (1843) married Elizabeth Smith (not sure of surname) in 1879 and had 3 further children including another William b.1882. This is confirmed in the 1891 census.

William (1882) I believe married Olive Fear. William (1882) died in 1951 in Bristol. I have found that the 1911 censuses have helped to clarify what is a very confusing tree.

I would be very interested to learn how you are related to William Andres (1843, 1867 or 1882).

Richard

Although not related to this fascinating and confusing family I have been looking at it to try to answer the query about the death of the William ANDRES who married Olive Amelia FEAR.  You are suggesting that the William ANDRES who was born in about 1882 was the one who married Olive.

In 1879 Elizabeth ANDRES (nee SMITH) was imprisoned for 6 months for cruelty to her step children and in July 1879 there was an announcement in the Western Daily Press that William ANDRES would not be responsible for any debts incurred by his wife Elizabeth.  She is missing from the 1881 census and I am not sure whether the Elizabeth who is with him in 1891 is the same Elizabeth.  I rather think that this Elizabeth was actually Elizabeth PAGINTON who was the mother of William, Albert & Emily PAGINTON who are with William ANDRES in 1891.

In 1882 William ANDRES and Elizabeth PAGGINTON were accused of abandoning an illegitimate child in the Workhouse.  It is possible that this child was the boy who was later known as William ANDRES junior.  He was registered as William PAGINTON in the Dec qrt 1881.  During the court case it was stated that William ANDRES was the father of the child and that Elizabeth PAGGINTON had been living with him for the past 15 months.

I'd be  interested in your comments!

I was very interested to read about the Court cases in 1879 & 1882 and I agree with your view that William b.1881 was the Son of William b.1843 and Elizabeth Pagginton whom he married in 1891.

The case reported in the Western Daily Press on 18 January 1879 -  confirms the William had been married for 4 years. I therefore believe this relates to his marriage to Elizabeth Smith in 1874.

I have found another interesting article in the  Western Daily Press of 12 February 1903. This tells the case of William Andres 24 & Olive Andres 24 being charged with stealing a quantity of provisions. William pleaded guilty and was sentanced to 6 weeks imprisonment with hard labour. This makes William being born around 1879 so could this be William b.1881? I can't find any record of another William Andres being born in 1879.

I may have to obtain the marriage certificate of William & Olive to find out for sure.

William Pagington Andres was born Dec 1/4 1881 & Olive Amelia Fear was born Sept 1/4 1877. They married Sept 1/4 1902 in Reg Dist. Axbridge - Vol no. 5c - Page 908. This would make Olive 4 years older than William although your article shows them the same age of 24. It is possible that it is the same couple as they would have been newly married in 1903 & a lot of people were very poor at that time & had trouble just sustaining themselves.

I now have a copy of the marriage certificate between William Andres & Olive Amelia Fear on 3 Sept 1902, however it shows his age as 30 & hers as 25.  This would mean he was born in 1872 which doesn't match any other records I have. Is it possible the incorrect age was given as the correct age would make her 5 years older than him or was it just incorrectly recorded. I haven't found another William Andres born in 1872.

Elizabeth Paggington (sometimes spelt with one g) married William Andres in March 1/4 1891. Reg. District, Barton Regis, Vol 6a, Page 262. I would like any info available re Elizabeth Andres (nee Smith) as I wasn't aware of her existance.

I am not related to the Andres family but am compiling a Family Tree for an elderly descendant of William Andres who emigrated from Western-super-mare to Western Australia in 1968. His name is Raymond Cecil Andres b. Feb 1932 married to Margaret Thelma June (nee White). His father was Ralph Andres b. 1904, whose father was William Andres. I always thought it was the William born in 1867 but have now been corrected to William (Paggington) Andres born 1881. William Andres b.1843 married Elizabeth Paggington in Mar 1/4 1891 in Barton Regis & it appears that the last 3 children were born out of wedlock but became Andres after the marriage. William Andres b.1881 also appears to be the child that William Andres b 1843 & Elizabeth Paggington were jailed for trying to abandon a child in 1882.

Elizabeth Paggington married William Andres in March 1/4 1891, Registration District Barton Regis, Vol 6a, page 262. It appears that William Paggington b. 1881 & his siblings had been born to William & Elizabeth out of wedlock before they legitimized their union in 1891.

I am compiling a Family Tree for an elderly couple of friends who emigrated from Western-super-mare to Western Australia in 1968. They are Margaret Thelma June (nee White) & Raymond Cecil Andres. Ray was born in Feb 1932 in Axbridge,Somerset.  His father was Ralph Andres b. 1904 in Clifton,Bristol & his Grandfather was William Andres & his Grandmother was Olive Amelia Fear.  I always thought his Grandfather was the William Andres b.1867 but now have been corrected to William Andres b. 1881. I would appreciate any clarification of these records.

I think I have now sorted this family out. William Andres b.1867 was married to Sarah Ball & they had 3 children, Nellie, Edith & Dorothy. I have confirmed this by their marriage record, census records & the probate record for both showing them both living at the same address as on the 1911 census. I have found the marriage record between William Andres b. 1843 & Elizabeth Paggington in 1891 which would imply that the 3 children, William b. 1881, Albert & Emily were born out of wedlock & became Andres after the marriage. William Paggington Andres b.1881 married Olive Amelia Fear in Sept 1/4 1902 in Axbridge.
